Annual School Calendar

Students in Morgan County attend school for 180 days each school year.  The year is divided into two semesters, each consisting of two 9-week grading periods.  The school board approves a school calendar annually in the spring.  Traditionally, schools start in early August in order to complete the first semester by Christmas break.  The second semester begins in January.  The school year ends during the last week in May.  A number of school days, designated as "snow days," are built into the calendar.

Parent involvement is critical to a student's success in school.  Computer-generated report cards are distributed every 9 weeks and progress reports are sent home halfway during the each 9 week period.  Twice a year, parent-teacher conferences are scheduled after the first progress report is distributed.  However, parents may contact teachers at any time during the school year to schedule a conference.

Statewide testing of TCAP, End of Course Exams, and Writing Assessments are included in the school calendar.  It is critical that students come to school rested and prepared to do their best on these assessment days.

To accommodate parental work schedules, fall and spring breaks are built into the calendar.  These extended breaks allow families time to spend on vacation while taking advantage of off-season rates.
